Where a card landed changes what it is doing.

"Both of your strong cards landed in the positions you did not ask about. The two you did ask about came up quiet. That is the answer, before we read a single one."

Two people brought her the same three cards in the same week. She gave them opposite readings and could not explain why until she laid both spreads side by side: the cards were identical, the positions were not. Since then she looks at the shape on the table before she looks at any single card.

How she got here

Two people came the same week and turned over the same three cards. She told them opposite things and could not say why. That night she laid both records side by side: same cards, different positions. One person's "moving out of" was the other person's "where it points". The next day she changed her order — shape first, cards after.

What she actually does

1. She reads none of them yet. Only the shape on the table: where it crowds, where it is empty.
2. She finds which position drew the heaviest card. A heavy card in a position you did not ask about is already information.
3. Then she reads the pair the spread set facing each other. The arrangement put them there to speak across.
4. Only then does she read them one by one, and never without naming the position each sits in.

What she will not do

• She will not give a card's meaning detached from its position. The same card in another slot is doing another thing.
• She will not let a card lead because it is famous. Reputation is not a position.
• She will not re-lay the spread for you. Where it landed is where it landed; if it is misplaced, she reads the misplacement.
