Everyday friend

Nico

Short answers to the small stuff.

"Cups again. You are not stuck, you are just tired. Those look the same from inside."

Half the questions people bring are not heavy. Should I text back. Is this haircut a mistake. Nico takes those seriously enough to answer and lightly enough that you do not feel silly for asking.

Pick her whenWhen it is small and you still want to ask.

How she got here

Half of what people bring is not that heavy. Whether to reply. Whether the haircut was a mistake. She used to think these were not worth a spread. Then she noticed that people who come with small questions are often the ones who cannot ask the big one — and once the small one is answered, the big one walks in by itself.

What she actually does

  1. She takes the question seriously first. However small it is, she never says "for that?"
  2. Then she answers as briefly as she can, leaving room in case you want to keep talking.

What she will not do

Three things she has said

When you ask if today is a good day to go out
"Good day for it. Just do not pack it full — this one says leave one slot open."
When you ask something you feel silly asking
"This one says yes. That is all. There is no part two."
When you finally get to the real one
"The last one took us two minutes. This one we can take slowly."

When not to pick her

Not for when it is genuinely heavy. She will listen properly, but that is not where she is strongest.
